League News/Report - Week 1 -
Well well well!!!
The first in our evening League fixtures and what a night?
Ballarat (the leaders) took on Fontainebleau (last place) and got whopped!! All six matches were convincingly won by the mighty French completely turning the tables.
Beth brought 2 curries (bonus points) and Meredith gets a bonus for Ballarat with her Girl Scout cookie fund raising. Jason Hirama brought some special beer direct from a brewery and Ballarat were superbly supported with 11 of their team showing up. Unfortunately that was the only source of their points, totaling 12 bonus points.
Fontainebleau did well with 8 of their team showing up and Keith McCoubrey bringing a curry. Indeed Keith hit the Lunes twice for 4 bonus points so was responsible for nearly half of the French 13 bonus points. On court Fontainebleau were untouchable never conceding more than 4 games. Ivan, Phil, Jim Zug and visiting top amateur Pat Winthrop (Newport) put on a display of power ball with the French coming out on top again!
6 matches were played and they won them all. This means 60 points plus 13 equals 73 total.
Manchester who weren't even playing still managed 9 points!! 5 of our magnificent squad turned up (including Billy Duval with some delicious beer) and Erich Eiselt gained us more bonus points by bringing along 2 friends for their 1st look at the game.
This Thursday sees the mighty, unstoppable, sophisticated (and incorrectly named!) Manchester Team taking on the Aussies. Captain Grassi has been rallying his troops for weeks so I hope Ballarat can bounce back?
There is a French theme evening hosted by Fontainebleau on the 5th Feb!
